Information International adds a new book “Salaries and Remunerations in the Public Sector” to its “Facts” series. The book sheds light on the reality of public administrations, employment, and salaries in the public sector in addition to the allowances and remunerations of the public institutions and authorities in Lebanon.

 Municipal Elections 2010 is a new book published by Information International in Arabic language that focuses on the activities and realities of the municipalities in Lebanon.

The book details the municipal elections in each of the five Mohafazats between 2002 – 2007 based on the number of municipalities, makhatirs, members of the municipalities, number of voters and their revenues from the Independent Municipal Fund.

Information International followed the Lebanese Parliamentary elections which took place on the 7th of June 2009 from the beginning and as of the issuance of the law number 25 dated 8 October 2008.
Several articles and studies were published in The Monthly and tens of opinion polls were performed at the outset of the election. Certain forecast were made and published in The Monthly June 2009 issue number 83 and were later amended to reflect the results of the polls and published in As Safir newspaper in March, April and May 2009.
Polls that were considered for the benefit of certain candidates remained confidential and were not published. Information International continues to follow up on the election results by publishing in details the results in each district. 5 volumes in Arabic covering the results in Lebanon will be in the market soon.

Lebanon’s Parliamentary History

This review of Lebanon's parliamentary system dates back to the French mandate and the Administrative Committee of 1920. It details the segmentation of districts, the number of representatives (by sect) and the number of eligible voters and actual voter turnout. An examination of all parliaments formed since the country's independence, as well as a list of the participating members of each is included.

Moving up to the present, a critique of the 2000 election, and specifically, of Law No. 171 on which the election was based, is provided. Appeals to the Constitutional Council by MPs who were unsuccessful in their bids for election, as well as the verdicts are recorded.

The latest members of parliament and their professions before entering public service have also been included for general interest, as well as a review of salaries and remunerations of MPs

Within the “Facts” series, Information International published “Lebanon in Figures: 2005-2006” in cooperation with Dar an-Nahar publishing house, . The book comes after “Lebanon in Figures: 1992-2002” and “Lebanon in Figures: 2003-2004”. The book puts forth figures and indicators related to the different Lebanese sectors in 2005 and 2006. Information and issues that appeared in the book include:
- Population growth: 73,770 births and 18,012 deaths were registered in 2005, which means an increase of 55,758 people; while in 2006, the Lebanese population increased by 54,003 people. Moreover, 29,078 marriage contracts were signed in 2006, compared to 4,399 divorce contracts.
- Education: The number of students in the various educational levels amounted to 1,012,873 in the academic year 2005-2006.
- NGOs: 516 NGOs were established in 2006 compared to 323 in 2005.
- Legislative authority: Parliament ratified 67 laws in 2006 compared to 68 laws in 2005.
- Commerce: In 2006, Lebanon imports amounted to $9.4 billion and exports to $2.3 billion.
- Commercial and industrial institutions: The number of commercial and industrial institutions registered in 2005 reached 4,971 compared to 4,952 in 2006.
- Price index: In 2005, the price index registered a decrease of 2.6%, while it increased by 5.6% in 2006.
The book also contains sections on the banking sector, the stock exchange, municipalities, cooperatives, traffic accidents, public finance, the National Social Security Fund, electricity, oil, official exams, travel and tourism, airport traffic, foreign labor, cars, insurance companies and construction.
