Good Governance and the Rule of Law in Arab Countries

The study aims at measuring the status of the rule of law in the following Arab Countries: Morocco, Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon. The study has been requested by the Arab Center for the Rule of Law and Integrity in coordination with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The study will cover three sectors: the Judiciary sector, the Media sector and the Parliamentary sector.

Lebanon Surveys-Post 2006 War

Information International conducted three surveys in Lebanon (Man on the Street survey, Shopkeepers survey and Construction survey) as per client request. The surveys aimed at gauging the respondents’ perceptions about the economic losses suffered because of the 2006 conflict, the source and extent of financial aid received; their views on corruption and its causes as well as their outlook for the economic future of the country.

Local Economic Development in Five Cities in Lebanon

Information International is the main local partner for the implementation of the Lebanese Local Economic Development (LED) in 5 cities: Tripoli, Jounieh, Zahle, Saida and Sour. Sectors Assessment-Post 2006 War

Information International conducted extensive desk research from published official material, articles and reports to assess progress achieved in the rebuilding of Transportation, Energy and Agriculture infrastructures in Lebanon after the 2006 July war. Part of the assessment is related to identifying the entities (Government, corporate, NGO, etc.) involved in the repair of the transportation and energy network as well as the agricultural farms.

Information International conducted 1,600 interviews in various areas in South Lebanon to detect the respondents’ experiences with human rights violations, the physical health problems related to the 2006 conflict or lack of medical care, their mental health as well as their beliefs about gun ownership and violence.

Conflict Assessment in Northern Lebanon

The main objective of the project is to assess the main areas of conflict in Northern Lebanon and propose potential solutions and interventions. The project entails conducting 2,000 interviews in various villages in Northern Lebanon in addition to 14 focus groups with municipality heads and youth in selected villages.

Reconciliation through Reintegration: a Study on Spatial Proximity and Social Relations in Two Post-Civil War Beirut Neighborhoods

The project consists of conducting interviews with residents in Ras Al Nabaa and Badaro to understand why these two neighborhoods are experiencing some degree of sectarian integration. The study will try to assess why the newcomers are choosing to reside in a neighborhood where they are religious minority rather than reside in a more homogeneous neighborhood, in addition to studying the effect of spatial proximity on social relations.

Data Analysis and Reporting –Students with Special Needs

The project consists of analyzing the questionnaires collected by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education-General Directorate Office, pertaining to

711 schools in Lebanon to detect students with special needs at those schools, their medical profile as well as other relevant information. A comprehensive report including the results of the analysis will be delivered to the Head of Education Section in UNICEF.

Local Economic Development Dissemination in Five Cities in Lebanon

The objective of this phase is to create an understanding in the five LED Cities of the information gathered, the methodology used and the recommendations made during the Phase 2 project among selected stakeholders and governmental leaders. In addition to creating an understanding of the Phase 2 effort, an underlying purpose of this effort is to teach the attendees how they can, utilizing the methods developed and employed by the ICMA / II Team, complete further studies of their communities. This phase will also include GIS training for each of the cities, which will enable them to tract and keep updated previously submitted information.

The project consists of undertaking an Impact study of the Job Creation Component of the ESFD. Information International will design a stratified representative sample of ESFD clients, assess the impact of loans on income and employment and estimate the poverty reduction effect of the ESFD support to SMEs.
